Introduction: At the end of February 2024, I flew from Chengdu to Mexico via San Francisco ✈️. I had originally planned to spend six months traveling south 🗺️, from Mexico through Guatemala and Peru to Argentina. But after staying in Mexico City for a while, I fell in love with this sunny, tree-lined, warm, and friendly city for reasons I cannot quite explain. In the end, my travel plan became a four-month Spanish-learning plan 🗒️.

At the beginning of 2023, after finishing Fu Zhen’s The Best Wine Is Worth Trading a Golden Turtle For, I wanted to travel to Latin America. After getting a U.S. visa in early 2024, I finally arrived in Mexico, my first stop in Latin America. To travel and communicate better in this part of the world, I decided to learn Spanish.
In my first month, I painfully built up basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar knowledge.

With the prospect of speaking Spanish fluently in the future in mind, I struggled through my first month of study.
